Eskista

Videowork: 2:58 min, viewed on horizontal screen

“Eskista” is a traditional cultural dance from Ethiopia, known for its distinctive upper body and shoulder movements. It’s said that the dance is inspired by the headmovement of hens or the shaking of a snakes tale. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Denmark, this piece serves as an interpretation of how I reconcile both cultures. It is a study on movements and explores how a body that hasn’t experienced those specific motions before reacts and grapples to find the rhythm.
